Mahindra Scorpio N: Tech and Design Detail

1. Mahindra Scorpio N is substantially larger but weighs less

The Scorpio N is 206mm longer and 97mm wider than the previous iteration, measuring 4,662mm long, 1,917mm broad, and constructed on a 2,750mm wheelbase. It features a 70mm larger wheelbase and is much lower than the standard Scorpio. The overall height is 1,870mm, compared to 1,995mm on the previous model, which should improve overall stability and handling.

2. Mahindra Scorpio N now features a lighter chassis

Body-on-frame SUVs like the Scorpio N require the stiffest yet lightest ladder frame chassis available, and Mahindra has improved the Scorpio N’s chassis. According to Mahindra, the new chassis is 10% lighter at 213 kg, and 81 percent of it is now constructed of high-strength steel for increased stiffness. Apart from the chassis, Mahindra claims to have reduced the body weight by 13%, to 293Kgs.

3. Mahindra Scorpio N now has a lighter suspension and changeable dampers

By employing alloy parts, the suspension’s unsprung mass (the parts not supported by springs) has been decreased by 35%. This enhances the ride and handling. A new five-link suspension has been employed in the back, along with a Ford Endeavour-style Watt’s linkage that stops the rear axle from moving laterally (side to side) under load. It also has Frequency Dependent Dampers, which soften over high-frequency shocks and tighten in corners.

4. Mahindra Scorpio N has a 203hp petrol engine and a 175hp diesel engine

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder mStallion petrol engine from Mahindra produces 203hp at 5,000rpm and 370Nm of torque. The 380Nm is significantly higher in versions equipped with the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Petrol versions will only be available with rear-wheel drive. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine is available in two power outputs: 138hp (basic variant) and 175hp (performance variant). The engine produces 370Nm of torque on the 6-speed manual and 400Nm on the 6-speed automatic in its higher 175hp state of tune.

5. Mahindra Scorpio N security technology

Six airbags, a front and back camera, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, hill hold control, and hill descent control are standard on the Scorpio N. Electronic Stability Control, which keeps the SUV from skidding, is a significant improvement, as are Roll-Over mitigation, Brake Disc Wiping, and Brake Prefill, all of which save vital seconds before a crash. There is also a tyre pressure monitoring system and a driver drowsiness warning.
