Tom Browne, the top AFL reporter, quits Channel Seven

After working for Seven for 12 years, Tom Browne resigns

After 12 years with the network, top football reporter Tom Browne announced his resignation, which will result in changes to Channel Seven’s AFL reporting department.

According to The Age, Tom Browne will join Sydney chairman Andrew Pridham’s MA Financial Group in a new position in the private sector as director of media and communications.

Browne declined to comment, although he did confirm to The Age a Herald Sun claim about his change in employment.

The coach of the Western Bulldogs, Luke Beveridge, broke his hand during a halftime speech, according to a story that Browne broke last week.

Tom Browne has many connections and a platform with the AFL broadcast partner, and he is a well-known voice in the football media. The Australian Football League this year secured a $4.5 billion, seven-year broadcast contract with broadcasters Seven and Foxtel that extends until 2031, making it easily the biggest deal in Australian history.

Browne works at Triple M employee who also participates in the Triple M Footy news podcast.

Before moving to Sydney with wife Tara and two kids, he will play out the 2023 AFL season with Seven, including the finals series.

Browne had a career as a lawyer with a foundation in finance before moving into the media industry. Prior to working as a football reporter for WIN News and Southern Cross Austereo, he spent three years as a lawyer at Minter Ellison.

Tom’s father Jeff Browne, the president of Collingwood, serves as the MA Financial Group’s independent chairman and non-executive director.

Mitch Cleary, Browne’s Seven understudy, is probably aiming for the top reporting position. After working as a journalist for AFL Media for three years, Cleary joined the Seven Network in late 2021.
