Last week, model Gigi Hadid was arrested in the Cayman Islands for alleged marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia.
Hadid, identified by the authorities as Jelena Noura Hadid, and her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, who is an influencer were arrested for the bringing of marijuana and paraphernalia on 10th of July 2023.
In a statement issued, Cayman Islands Customs & Border Control confirmed that the 28 year old model, Gigi Hadid was arrested with her friend on July 10, 2023.
“The two women, who arrived on a private aircraft to the Cayman Islands from the United States, were arrested when their luggage was searched, and a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found,”.
According to the statement, two days after her arrest, Hadid appeared in court and was charged with “the importation of a controlled drug and the importation of a drug utensil.”
Hadid pleaded guilty and was fined around $1200 USD. There was no conviction recorded.
In a statement, a spokesperson admitted that she was traveling with marijuana obtained with a medical license.
“Gigi was travelling with marijuana and paraphernalia legally purchased in NYC with a drug licence,” according to the statement.
According to the statement, “Gigi was travelling with marijuana that is legally purchased in NYC with a medical licence. “It has also been legal in Grand Cayman for medical purposes since 2017.” Her record is still clean, and she had a good time on the island the rest of the time.”
Meanwhile, the “Next in Fashion” host seemed to be having a good time. On July 18, she posted an Instagram photo of herself on a beach with friends.
