Even while we don’t yet know when Squid Game Season 2 will begin the second round of death games, Netflix has at least revealed who will be taking part. We will need more time to get over the shocking deaths of our favorite Season 1 characters (watching Sae-byeok’s steady fall was excruciating! ), but we are prepared to develop feelings for the new characters just to have them eliminated one at a time.

The show broke beyond linguistic barriers when it debuted in September 2021 and quickly rose to the top of Netflix’s all-time most-watched list. Squid Game had it all: an intriguing premise, riveting performers, and a plot that just became creepier as the episode went on.

Squid Game Season 2 Release Date

The Squid Game Season 2 Netflix will debut in 2024, according to information provided earlier by director Hwang Dong-hyuk at a Netflix press conference in September 2022.

1.65 billion hours of “Squid Game” season 1 were watched on Netflix in just 28 days, making it a huge success. The “Squid Game” cast and crew received historic Emmy victories in the wake of the record-breaking viewership.

The series received a total of six Emmy awards, including outstanding directing, production design, special visual effects, stunt performance, actress in a guest role for Lee You-mi, and lead actor for Lee Jung-Jae, who also made history by becoming the first Asian actor to get the award.

Squid Game Season 2 Netflix Latest News

The whole Squid Game Season 2 cast was unveiled by Netflix on June 28. The cast of the ensemble will grow by eight more actors, who are listed in the Cast section below. Additionally, Netflix revealed that production will start later in 2023 and that the first table read took place during the week of June 26.

Squid Game Season 2 Cast

At Tudum in Brazil, Netflix announced the cast of “Squid Game” season 2. Given the nature of the Squid Game itself, don’t expect to see many recognizable characters in season two. Except for one, all 456 contestants in the first season died.

But one person we know we can count on to return is Seong Gi-hun, who, although surviving the game, was drawn back in after seeing someone else recruited for the mega-millions life-and-death game.

Wi Ha-jun will also return as police detective Jun-ho.

According to Variety, some new players have also been announced. Park Gyu-young of It’s Okay Not to Be Okay, singer Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim of Itaewon Class, Sweet Home’s Lee Jin-uk, rapper Choi Seung-hyun (aka TOP), Roh Jae-won, and DP’s Won Ji-an are among them.

So, a good balance of male and female characters, which should quell fan outrage following the first cast update, which included an all-male lineup of Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.

Squid Game Season 2 Plot

At the end of the first season of Squid Game, Gi-hun defeated the game despite all odds. However, the game is far from over. Gi-hun understands that the death of the Squid Game’s inventor has not prevented the competition from continuing with new entrants.

Given all of this, it would be easy to continue the story with Gi-hun at the center, doing everything he can to halt the game, just as he swears in those final minutes. And it appears like season two will take the same path.

Squid Game Season 2 Trailer

Unfortunately, as far as we know, filming on the new season hasn’t even begun, so a release date is still a long way off. Hence there is no official trailer.

However, because Squid Game has turned us off gambling for good, we’re not willing to place bets on when new footage will be released just yet.

Keep checking in, though, and we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information.

How Did the Squid Game Season 1 End?

Gi-hun defeats Cho Sang-woo in the last Squid game of Season 1, wins, and decides not to murder him. Instead, he uses a gap in the rules to implore Sang-woo to finish the game, but Sang-woo ends up fatally stabbing himself.

Gi-hun is still affected by the anguish he endured during the games and the death of his mother as the final episode jumps ahead a year. He is given the hefty prize money via a bank card. He hasn’t spent his reward money, it is revealed. Later, he distributes some of it to Sae-byeok’s brother and Sang-woo’s mother.

Gi-hun discovers the truth about the games’ origins after paying a visit to his buddy and fellow player Oh Il-nam, who is dying, and discovers that he invented them exclusively to amuse the wealthy. Gi-hun learns that the game is still going on after Il-nam passes away when he sees the Salesman trying to sign up a new participant at the airport.
